Sometimes it's useful to separate a sales forecast into segments that have different deal dynamics. For instance, a forecast may contain deals for both new prospects and existing customers. Commonly, new prospect deals have longer sale cycles and lower win rates than deals originating with existing customers. Similarly, different products or services might unique characteristics.
